Friday March 20 7.45pm Dunchideock Village Hall
Film night returns after a break whilst the Village Hall kitchen has been renewed.
After a four-year gap since the last TV series, the stars are back – Michelle Dockery, Hugh Bonneville, and, of course, Dame Maggie Smith. It is 1927 and Downton staff and the Crawleys themselves are preparing for a visit from the King and Queen, a visit which generates scandal, romance and intrigue.
No one has not enjoyed the film, from the Guardian critic who describes it as “ridiculous vanilla flavoured fun” and the Telegraph who describes “watching it as like settling into a re-upholstered chair, which still creaks in the same old places”, to the Sun who raves about it as “the film of the decade”. As for the audience reaction , it has been a box office success and its audience has given it an excellent Rotten Tomatoes score of 94%. Even the critics, however grudgingly, have given it 84%. We found it thoroughly enjoyable. Peter Goodchild. See the Film Night pages for further info on how film nights operate.
